Porcelain Sake Set on Sapele Base
The beautiful, hand-thrown porcelain pieces in this set are made in Seattle. The ochoko cups have an elegant, thin rim to enhance the subtle flavors and aromas of the sake. Each tokkuri decanter holds 12 oz so two will hold a full bottle of sake. A bowl-shaped candle holder completes the set. The textured finish on the outside of each vessel is contrasted by the delicate crazing of the glaze finish on the inside. These pieces sit in a series of interconnected pools in the Sapele (a species of mahogany) base so that the porcelain can be re-arranged to create different compositions.

Michelle Williams / Seattle, USA
The porcelain pieces in this set were designed in collaboration with the talented ceramic artist Michelle Williams Ceramics and based on her signature style.
Michelle’s work is made from an exceptional porcelain with a high New Zealand kaolin content. While notoriously difficult to work with, the fired clay is among the smoothest, whitest, and most translucent available anywhere. Michelle hand throws all of these pieces in her Seattle studio. Working primarily on the wheel she creates vessels, often working in groups or series, that capture the essence of a particular idea or visual style. Once thrown, the pieces are trimmed and allowed to dry before they are carved and meticulously finished. All her work is sanded repeatedly throughout the firing process, yielding a smooth, sensual surface that invites touch and welcomes frequent use. Drawing upon her experience as a curator and art historian she makes work that combines a minimalist aesthetic with the richness and complexity of organic forms.
